It is one of the most anticipated events in the area. Bidding begins promptly at 9 a.m. so its a good idea to head out early and beat the traffic. The auction is in a slightly different location this year but will still be easy to find. Head out on Highway 37 to the Koocanusa Bridge. Go over the bridge and turn right, driving the scenic Forest Development Road along the reservoir following the signs which easily direct you to the Amish community. The signs will direct you to turn onto the West Kootenai Road. Youll see the obvious festivities next to the school house. Parking attendants will be there to alleviate any parking problems. The auction features hand-crafted items from the Amish and a number of local vendors set up booths as well. While a large number of finely crafted wood products are on hand, the quilts are some of the favorites with visitors. A tasty Amish lunch will be served as well as pop, ice cream, and other treats being available at the gazebo. |
